Biographical Note
Born in Italy and living in the US, Giancarlo has been pursuing art photography since the early 1980s. Initially self-taught, he is passionate about the history of the medium, and has worked in a number of formats and genres with a particular emphasis and focus on black & white photography.
His current projects are focused on the aesthetic exploration of the visual ambiguity of the photographic medium, beyond limitations of genre or stylistic trends. With a constant search for a personal style and language, his creative work pursues the research of “subject” and form — and their relations — inspired by the artistic tradition and avant-gardes of the twentieth century.
Giancarlo holds a doctorate in Science from the University of Florence and began his professional and artistic life in Europe, between London and Milan. He has lived in both Canada and the United States from mid ‘90s, and currently lives and works in Los Angeles.
